About Theatre Baddeck
Theatre Baddeck is a professional, non-profit theatre company and Registered Charity based in Baddeck, Nova Scotia.
Our Mission
To enrich Victoria County and Cape Breton Island culture with a high quality, professional theatre experience and to delight and entertain visitors to Victoria County with stories that offer a distinct Cape Breton flavour.
Our Story
Theatre Baddeck is a professional theatre company based in Baddeck, Nova Scotia. We had our first summer season in 2015 with the historical fiction comedy The Young Ladies of Baddeck Club by Co-Founders Christy MacRae-Ziss and Hannah Ziss. The play was a hit with tourists and locals and was remounted in 2016 and 2017. It was lauded as “the highlight of our vacation” and “a play that made me proud to call Cape Breton home.”
It was with this encouraging response that Christy and Hannah forged on, programming seasons with summer fare that had a distinct Cape Breton flavour. By 2024, we had more than quadrupled our attendance since our first season with no sign of slowing down. Click here to explore our full production history.
On January 1, 2025 Theatre Baddeck began its long-term tenancy at Greenwood United Church with the objective of renovating the space to create the new Greenwood Arts Centre - a permanent year-round home for Theatre Baddeck and a quality rental venue for the wider community and other cultural producers.
